Black opal is characterized by a dark body tone which can range from dark grey to jet black.  Trace elements of iron oxide and carbon are infused into this gemstone to make the dark body tone, allowing light to refract better and exude a full-color spectrum.  There are only few places where black opal is found. The main one is around Lightning Ridge in New South Wales, Australia.   The first black opal is thought to have been found in 1877. Black opal is becoming increasingly scarce, due to the cost of mining and government legislation on small miners. Unlike the abundance of other gemstones found throughout the world, black opals are now considered one of the world's rarest gemstones.  Black Opal is a protective gemstone that can help shield and restore one's aura by allowing energy to pass through you without touching or harming you. Black opal was called the precious stone as it was the gateway to paradise. Despite being a black stone, it stands for all the positive energy as it can help create peace.
